marijuana news round-up

Medical marijuana legislation is changing at the state level, as the federal government looks to end prohibition and improve social equity, with The MORE Act. This year, many could change at the state and national levels for medical marijuana and adult use.  Here is your weekly marijuana news roundup from MarijuanaDoctors.com.

Connecticut House Passes Adult-Use Legalization Bill

Patients with chronic health conditions in Connecticut have something to celebrate. The Connecticut House of Representatives showed bipartisan support and passed the marijuana legalization bill. But the vote was narrowly split, passing with a close 76-62 vote in favor of legalizing adult use in the state.

Juan Candelaria (D – New Haven) has been working to pass the legalization of recreational cannabis in CT for years. Safety and quality assurance are top motivators for Candelaria and the reduction or elimination of black market sales of cannabis.

Science Steps Up to Debunk the Myth of the “Lazy Pot Head”

Two new clinical studies released in the first quarter of 2021 reveal some interesting facts about cannabis use and lifestyle. While Hollywood likes to portray the daily cannabis user as unfocused, lazy, tired, and often incoherent, scientific studies prove that’s not always the case.

Not only are cannabis users healthier and more fit, but they may have better coping mechanisms for stress and anxiety. In addition, obesity rates are lower among people who use cannabis regularly.

Washington Offers “Joints for Jabs” to Boost Covid-19 Immunization Rates

The state of Washington is willing to be creative in an effort to raise immunization rates. The Washington Department of Health wrote that it experienced difficulty getting sufficient doses of the COVID-19 vaccine initially. A problem that’s now solved but has placed the state behind on its targeted vaccination goals.

Dubbed “Poke for a Toke,” the plan seems to be working. Residents in select areas of Washington can get a pre-roll joint from a local dispensary. Both medical and recreational dispensaries wanted to help with the vaccination drive and have generously donated. The “Joints for Jabs” program officially ends on July 12, 2021.

Texas cannabis reform

Texas Marijuana News: Senate Angers Patients and Medical Cannabis Advocates

There were more than sixty pieces of cannabis reform legislation filed in the state of Texas and approved by the Texas House of Representatives. What was promised to be a big year of cannabis reform in the Lonestar State has become a bitter disappointment to patients, practitioners, and healthcare equity advocates.

The Senate rolled back the recommendation to increase the THC limit from 0.5% to 5%. The House approved that of Representatives. Instead, Senators opted to increase maximum THC levels for medical marijuana to only 1%.

Other amendments that would have decriminalized cannabis failed to make it to the Governor’s desk, and it is unlikely they will be heard in the current session. Unfortunately, for Texans facing charges for personal-use possession amounts, that could mean fines and jail time.

Jurisdictions like Dallas and Austin, Texas, are amending local ordinances to decriminalize cannabis at the community level, according to marijuana news. Refusing to allocate law enforcement resources to detect, test, or charge residents with personal-use amounts. Citations instead of charges are already being issued in major cities across the state. Learn how you can get involved.

New York Announces Ban on Delta-8 CBD

Rock hard, dense nugg’s. They don’t call them moon rocks for anything! But, that is usually what you get when you purchase Delta-8 CBD as a smokable product. Proposed new Department of Health regulations in New York now makes it illegal for any retailer to sell CBD products with Delta-8.

Delta-8 THC is extracted from hemp cannabis but not from marijuana plants. However, Delta-8 can produce some similar psychoactive and euphoric effects. Delta-9 THC is naturally found in marijuana. The New York Health Department views Delta-8 as synthetic and harmful to health. That is because Delta-8 THC is extracted through isomerization, a process that involves many different toxic chemicals.

The announcement resulted in the immediate closure of many CBD specialty stores. Delta-8 THC was a top seller for retailers and is now prohibited.
