Four years after medical marijuana became legal in Minnesota, a new survey found 58% of primary care physicians in the state believe cannabis is a “legitimate” treatment and 39% thought providers should offer it to patients. The study, published in the journal BMC Family Practice, was small, including only 62 doctors.

A majority of providers in the survey agreed that medical marijuana was helpful for treating cancer, terminal illness, and intractable pain. Half said cannabis was effective for muscle spasms, and 42% felt it could help patients suffering from seizures

Yet half said they were not ready or did not want to answer patients’ questions about medical cannabis. Many felt they needed more information about the benefits and risks in order to advise patients more effectively.

Here’s information on how to get a medical marijuana card in Minnesota.
